Amtrak and Metrolink have announced that services between Orange County and San Diego County have been suspended for at lest several weeks because of beach erosion on the line. While the train line is closed emergency repairs will be done to fix the erosion with no date yet when the line might reopen.
The Amtrak service down the coast from Santa Barbara to San Diego called the Pacific Surfliner is very busy between Orange County and San Diego. One of the highlights of the route is the fact it goes along the coast in South Orange County by the beach which means you get great views but erosion is always possible.
At this time Metrolink service is suspended to San Juan Capistrano, San Clemente and Oceanside stations. Metrolink service is ending at the Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo stations with no train replacement bus service being offered.
Amtrak Pacific Surfliner service now ends at the Irvine station but a train replacement bus service is being operated between Irvine and Oceanside stations check with Amtrak for more details.
